About Chickasaw State Park
520 acres of land here were held by the state since 1819, then developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps into a public recreation area. It offers picnicking, a playground, and minimal camping, and serves as a stop on the Alabama Black Belt Birding Trail. Budget cuts closed or scaled back the park in 2015, and it reopened in 2016 under a cooperative arrangement between the county and the state parks division.
