About Lincoln Trail State Park
A man-made lake anchors this 1,023-acre tract of woods along Illinois Route 1. The state began assembling the land in 1936 with an initial 31-acre purchase, growing the holding over more than two decades before the park and lake were formally dedicated together in 1958. That timeline of gradual acquisition followed by a joint dedication reflects how the property came together as a single recreational tract built around the lake itself.
