About Prairie Dog State Park
About 300 prairie dogs now live in a colony here, introduced during the 1980s well after the park's 1967 founding. The name actually comes from Prairie Dog Creek, which feeds into the Keith Sebelius Reservoir, and no prairie dogs actually lived on the land when the park was established. The reservoir sits alongside the park grounds, reached via Highway 261 west of Norton.
