About Ash Hollow State Historical Park
Windlass Hill and Ash Hollow Cave sit 2.5 miles apart, forming the two attractions that make up the historic site. The cave holds evidence of human use across thousands of years, while the hill bears the marks left by wagon wheels as emigrants steered their loads down its steep slope on their way west. Together these two spots preserve traces of both ancient occupation and overland travel through this stretch of Nebraska.
