About Berlin–Ichthyosaur State Park
Fossils of ichthyosaurs remain undisturbed within this preserve, alongside the remnants of the mining town of Berlin. The park spans more than 1,100 acres on the western slope of the Shoshone Mountains at an elevation of 7,000 feet, land set aside in 1957. Both the marine reptile remains and the abandoned settlement sit together within these boundaries, giving the site its dual designation as a fossil and historic preserve.
