About Wild Horse State Recreation Area
Wild Horse Reservoir anchors this recreation area, sitting along its northeast shore across 120 acres of parkland. The reservoir itself was formed in 1937 and grew to 2,830 acres after a new dam went up in 1969, and it draws anglers year-round, with ice fishing a particular focus in colder months. Beyond fishing, the grounds accommodate camping, picnicking, boating, ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, and skiing, making it usable across multiple seasons.
