About Monahans Sandhills State Park
Dunes covering the southern Llano Estacado were set aside for public use when the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department opened this 3,840-acre tract in 1957. The land straddles Ward and Winkler counties, protecting a stretch of active sand hills within the larger Monahans Sandhills dune field. Its acreage makes it one of the larger tracts of preserved dune terrain in this part of Texas.
