About Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site
Gun emplacements, underground magazines, and building foundations remain from fortifications built in 1941 at the end of Miller Point on Kodiak Island's eastern shore. The site never saw combat and was abandoned once World War II ended, and it takes its name from Lt. Col. William R. Abercrombie, an early Alaska explorer and Army officer. The 182 acres also include bluffs above the ocean, spruce forest, and meadows.
