About Pacheco State Park

Grasslands in the Diablo Range south of Pacheco Pass make up most of this park, which spans 6,890 acres across Merced, Santa Clara, and San Benito counties, though only the western 2,600 acres are open to visitors. The eastern two-thirds remain closed because the trail system there is underdeveloped and the area shares ground with the turbines of the Gonzaga Wind Farm. Those turbines, dating to the 1980s, were slated for replacement with newer models expected to raise power output from 16.5 megawatts to as much as 80 megawatts.
