About Ahupua'a O Kahana State Park
Kahana Valley rises from Kahana Bay to the summit of Puʻu Pauao at 2,670 feet, making up the only publicly owned ahupuaʻa, a traditional Hawaiian land division running from mountain to sea, in the state. The valley sits on Oʻahu's windward side and holds a tropical climate with some of the heaviest rainfall on the island, reaching close to 300 inches a year in places. The park's stated purpose centers on teaching and preserving Hawaiian culture rather than standard recreation.
