About Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park

Six miles of Lake Michigan shoreline run through this 4,160 acre park, split into two units of dune, wetland, prairie, and black oak savanna. Its lands connect to the Chiwaukee Prairie Illinois Beach Lake Plain, a wetland recognized internationally under the Ramsar Convention, and the southern end holds a designated nature preserve named a National Natural Landmark in 1980. Visitors can swim, boat, hike, bicycle, camp, watch birds, and picnic. The park took its current name in 2010, honoring former state senator Adeline Geo-Karis.
