About Kankakee River State Park
The Kankakee River runs through the park, passing four islands, Smith, Hoffman, Langham, and Willow, that lie within its boundaries. The park spans 4,000 acres across Kankakee and Will Counties, land that grew from an original 35-acre gift by Ethel Sturges Dummer in 1938. Commonwealth Edison added 1,715 acres in 1956 and donated further acreage in 1989, shaping the park's current extent.
