About Kanopolis State Park
A reservoir anchors this stretch of the Smoky Hills region, bordered by sandstone canyons cut into the surrounding terrain. Yucca and other desert plants grow on the dry ground, and a prairie dog town occupies part of the landscape. The mix of water, rock formations, and dryland vegetation reflects the transitional character of this part of Kansas.
