About Fort Wilkins Historic State Park
An 1844 army outpost sits restored at the center of this 987-acre property, garrisoned in the Copper Harbor area during a period of copper mining tension in the Keweenaw. The fort was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and the grounds also hold the Copper Harbor Lighthouse, built in 1866. The park functions as a Cooperating Site of the Keweenaw National Historical Park and includes camping and day-use facilities alongside the historic buildings.
