About Clay Myers State Natural Area at Whalen Island

A 1.5-mile loop trail circles the perimeter of Whalen Island, which despite its name is not a true island but a piece of land ringed by Sand Lake Estuary and surrounding wetlands. The natural area was established in 2000 and carries the name of Clay Myers, a former Oregon secretary of state. It is administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
