About Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site
From 1889 to 1946, Confederate Civil War veterans and their families gathered here each late July or early August for annual reunions, camping under the bur oaks at the meeting point of the Navasota River and Jack's Creek. Visitors came together for speeches, concerts, dances and shared meals, and the gatherings also served to raise funds supporting the families of soldiers who had died. The site preserves the ground where those reunions took place across nearly six decades.
