About Marks’ Mills Battleground State Park
A stretch of ground at the junction of Arkansas Highway 8 and Highway 97 marks where Confederate and Union forces clashed on April 25, 1864, during the Camden Expedition of the Civil War. The park preserves part of that battlefield, one of nine sites grouped together as the Camden Expedition Sites National Historic Landmark District. The battle is remembered in particular for the killing of Black Union soldiers who were attempting to surrender.
