About Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Desert terrain stretching across roughly 650,000 acres makes up this park, land that reaches into a fifth of the surrounding county's territory. The name combines the surname of eighteenth century Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza with borrego, the Spanish word for sheep. It ranks as the largest state park in California and the third largest among state parks nationwide.
