About Tomo-Kahni State Historic Park
A former winter settlement of the Kawaiisu people gives this park its name, which translates to "winter home" in their language. Established in 1993 with the agreement of tribal elders, the site preserves rock art and bedrock mortars left by the Kawaiisu, who chose the location for its abundant resources. These mortars and rock art remain as physical evidence of the settlement and the people who once lived there.
