About Castaic Lake State Recreation Area

A reservoir formed by Castaic Dam holds back the waters of Castaic Creek here, set within the Sierra Pelona Mountains in the northwestern part of the county. The recreation area centers on this lake, giving visitors a large body of water surrounded by mountain terrain. Its formation depended entirely on the dam built across the creek, making the lake itself the main feature of the grounds.
