About Myakka River State Park

Thirty-seven thousand acres make this one of Florida's largest state parks, spanning land on the Atlantic coastal plain. The Civilian Conservation Corps laid out its grounds in the 1930s, and a portion came as a gift from the family of Bertha Palmer. It takes its name from the Myakka River, designated Florida's first Wild and Scenic River. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection manages the site with help from the Friends of Myakka River.
