About Rock Island Trail State Park
A former rail corridor stretches 26 miles across west-central Illinois, forming the trail at the center of this park. The route follows the path of a decommissioned railway line, giving it a long, narrow shape unlike a typical block of parkland. In 2003 it was designated a National Recreation Trail, a status tied to its use as a continuous cross-country route.
