About Cypremort Point State Park
Chitimacha tradition holds that a great cypress once stood at this site, marking one of four boundary points of the tribe's land, and the park's name comes from the French for "dead cypress." The 185-acre grounds sit against coastal marsh on Vermilion Bay, with a half-mile man-made beach holding picnic sites, a fishing pavilion, and a sailboat launch. Six cabins on the grounds can be reserved. The point is one of the few places along the Louisiana Gulf coast reachable by road.
