About Palmetto Island State Park
1981 marked the year Louisiana acquired the land that would become this park, though construction did not start until 2002 with public use in mind. Budget constraints and other setbacks pushed the opening back further, and the park finally welcomed visitors on October 28, 2010, making it one of the newer additions to the state's park system.
