About Hodges Gardens State Park
Built privately during the 1940s by the Hodges family and opened to the public in 1956, this land was formally dedicated in 1959 before passing to a nonprofit foundation the following year and later joining the Louisiana state park system in April 2007. Spanning 4,700 acres between Florien and Hornbeck near the Toledo Bend Reservoir, it holds formal gardens, an arboretum, the Azalea Overlook, waterfalls, walking trails, and a visitor center. It is recognized as the largest horticultural park and recreation area in the country.
