About Cobscook Bay State Park
A Maliseet-Passamaquoddy word for boiling tides gave the bay its name, a reference to the dramatic tidal swings visible from shore. The park covers 888 acres on the western shore of Cobscook Bay, along Whiting Bay between Dennysville and Whiting. Tides here average 24 feet and can rise as high as 28 feet, among the largest on the coast. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry manages the property.
