About Buffalo River State Park
A tract of native prairie split by the wooded course of the Buffalo River makes up the core of this 1,068-acre park, protected together with the neighboring Bluestem Prairie Scientific and Natural Area as one of the state's largest remaining stretches of high-quality prairie. A former man-made swimming pond drew visitors from the nearby Fargo-Moorhead area but has been closed since 2018. Today the park is used mainly for educational programs, river swimming, and picnicking.
