A 7.4-acre tract marks one of the skirmish sites of the Battle of Carthage, fought in 1861 as one of the earliest engagements of the American Civil War. The ground is preserved for that single event, without other structures or attractions described. It is owned by the state and managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
