About Prairie State Park
Nearly 4,000 acres of grassland and woodland make up this preserve, protecting one of the last stretches of tallgrass prairie remaining in Missouri. A captive bison herd of about 100 animals, along with elk, roams the property. Backpackers can camp within the park, and hiking trails and a nature center provide access to the grasslands and wooded areas.
