About Madison Buffalo Jump State Park
A cliff in the canyon here once served Native Americans as a buffalo jump, a site where bison herds were driven over the edge as a method of hunting. The land's main features have stayed largely as they were during those hunts, and archaeologists working at the base of the cliffs have recovered tons of buried bison bones along with the remains of tipi villages.
