About Mormon Station State Historic Park
A trading post stockade built in 1851 by Mormon pioneers once stood here, marking the first permanent nonnative settlement in Nevada. The outpost gave travelers on the Carson Route of the California Trail a place to rest before continuing their journey. That original structure burned down in 1910, and the park now centers on a replica stockade in downtown Genoa holding artifacts and exhibits on the station's history.
