Cottonwood forest along the Rio Grande runs through this open space, which despite its name is not run by a single state agency. Established in 1983, it is managed jointly by local, state and federal agencies along with other organizations. The land follows the river corridor near Albuquerque, offering access to the bosque that lines the water.
