About Clark Reservation State Park
1879 is when James Macfarlane wrote of approaching a lake from the south turnpike and finding himself abruptly at the edge of a deep gulf, comparing it to the Niagara River below the falls. That lake fills the plunge basin of a waterfall that formed here as glacial ice melted at the end of the last Ice Age. The site also holds the largest United States population of American hart's tongue fern, a plant declared endangered in this country in 1989.
