About Green Lakes State Park
Two small meromictic lakes, colored an unusual blue-green, sit at the base of a mile-long gorge shaped by glacial ice ages. Green Lake spans 65 acres and reaches 195 feet deep, while the smaller Round Lake covers 34 acres with a depth of 170 feet. The surrounding woods hold the largest patch of old growth forest remaining in Central New York, and the whole landscape stands as an example of the region's distinctive glacial geology.
