The Connetquot River runs through 3,473 acres of protected land that carries New York's first State Park Preserve designation, a status meant to safeguard its ecological, cultural and historic resources. The grounds hold the Long Island Environmental Interpretive Center along with the Southside Sportsmens Club District, a site added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
