About Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site
Lake Ontario borders this site, where two battles of the War of 1812 were fought as American forces defended a fortified shipyard village. At its peak, roughly 3,000 men worked building warships here, while thousands of troops garrisoned the surrounding settlement. The grounds preserve this military and shipbuilding history along the lakeshore south of the village.
