About Caddo Mounds State Historic Site
Two earthwork platform mounds and a burial mound remain from a Caddoan Mississippian village and ceremonial center built on this ground beginning around 800 CE, with most construction happening between 1100 and 1300 CE. The settlement sat along a precontact Native American trail that the Spanish later named El Camino Real de los Tejas, and it existed long before Europeans reached the region.
