About Lewis & Clark State Park
Named for explorers who never actually passed through the area, this park was set aside to protect one of the last major stands of old-growth forest remaining in Washington. It opened to the public in the 1920s, when annual visitation topped 10,000 people. The land preserves mature timber rather than commemorating any documented route or campsite of the Lewis and Clark expedition itself.
