The trail runs 56 miles along a decommissioned railroad grade, stretching from Chehalis west to South Bend and passing through or near several smaller towns and parks on the way. It follows an east-west corridor alongside State Route 6. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission oversees the route, while local cities and towns maintain sections that fall within their boundaries.
