About Saint Edward State Park

A Catholic seminary once stood on these 326 acres before the property became part of the state park system, and logging had already cleared the land twice, first in the 1800s and again in the 1920s. Today the regrown forest mixes Douglas-fir, redcedar, bigleaf maple, madrone and hemlock over a floor thick with ferns, shrubs and moss, crossed by trails open to hikers and cyclists. An undisturbed shoreline along Lake Washington borders the park's west side, and the grounds still encircle the Saint Thomas Center building, now home to Bastyr University.
