About Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park

An impoundment on the West Fork River, Stonewall Jackson Lake was built as a project of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the park along its shores opened in 1990 with a campground, marina, multi-purpose building, and park offices. The facilities could not generate enough revenue to cover the construction debt, so Senator Robert C. Byrd crafted legislation excusing the state from repaying the Corps' $28 million balance if park improvements surpassed that same amount.
