About Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site
The cell blocks date to 1872, making the prison one of the oldest standing buildings in Wyoming. It held federal inmates from 1872 to 1890, then state prisoners until 1901, before the University of Wyoming took over the grounds and ran an agricultural experiment station there until 1989. The buildings opened to visitors in 1991 and gained historic site status in 2004.
