A boardwalk trail leads through swampland to the survey marker that identifies the starting point from which public lands obtained in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase were later measured out and divided. The marker sits at the exact spot used by surveyors for that work. The park preserves this initial point and the wetland surrounding it.
