About Auburn State Recreation Area

Forty miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River run through this recreation area, spanning land once worked heavily for gold. The river offers whitewater stretches rated Class II through IV, drawing boaters alongside anglers, swimmers, and gold panners working the same waters that drew prospectors before them. Trails through the area accommodate running, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, and the SRA hosts endurance races held throughout the year.
