About Malibu Creek State Park

Eight thousand two hundred fifteen acres of the Santa Monica Mountains make up this canyon land along Malibu Creek, protected since 1974 and opened to visitors two years later. The park forms part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and archaeologists have uncovered the remains of a village called Talepop in its northeast corner, linked to the Chumash people who were known for the wood plank canoes they used along the coast.
