About Dockweiler State Beach

A 3.75-mile stretch of shoreline makes up the beach, covering 91 acres set aside for public use. It includes a designated area for hang gliding practice and training, and part of the property sits under the flight path of the adjacent international airport. Though it belongs to the state park system, county officials handle its daily management. Established in 1948 as part of Venice-Hyperion Beach State Park, it was given its current name in 1955 to honor early Los Angeles figure Isidore B. Dockweiler.
