About Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park
Old-growth redwoods line the Smith River within this 16.3-square-mile preserve, named for explorer Jedediah Smith. The park is managed jointly with Del Norte Coast Redwoods, Prairie Creek Redwoods, and Redwood National Park as part of the combined Redwood National and State Parks system. In 1983 it was designated part of the California Coast Ranges International Biosphere Reserve, recognizing the surrounding forest and river corridor.
