About Montara State Beach

Eight miles north of Half Moon Bay on State Route 1, this stretch of sand sits below high bluffs on the western side of the highway. The California State Department of Parks and Recreation manages it through the San Mateo Coast Sector Office, and it ranks among the cleanest beaches in the state. Visitors use it for surfing, sunbathing, nature study and fishing.
