About John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

A 1,600-foot boardwalk crosses the estuary here, linking the mainland to Munyon Island in the Intracoastal Waterway. The island once held the Hygeia Hotel, a lavish resort that burned down in 1917, and today offers hiking trails and pavilions reachable only by kayak or boat. The park spans 438 acres of land and water on and north of Singer Island, and John D. MacArthur's Foundation donated part of that land in the 1970s.
