About George L. Smith State Park
A grist mill, covered bridge, and the old Parrish Mill dam still stand at the water's edge, remnants tied to the park's namesake, a former Georgia House speaker from the area. The surrounding 412-acre pond, shaded by cypress trees across the park's 1,634 acres, draws anglers and canoeists onto the water. Its isolated setting also brings out birders and naturalists, with great blue herons and white ibis known to nest here.
